Sam has over 25 years experience as a trial lawyer. He has achieved successful results for clients in both jury trials and in trials before judges, including obtaining the single largest jury verdict for a client in Mesa County.
Sam's experience and success include complex civil litigation in the state and federal courts In Colorado and Wyoming handling matters involving professional negligence, commercial disputes, employment, business torts, securities and commodities matters, non-compete and trade secret disputes, and financial matters.
Sam's experience as a trial lawyer often results in negotiated resolution cases without the necessity of trial. Sam has negotiated favorable settlements for clients, including seven-figure results. Sam has also successfully defeated claims made against his clients for similar amounts.
While Sam's primary focus is on trials and litigation, he has also been lead counsel for several multi-million dollar commercial, residential, and agricultural real estate transactions, handling everything related to contracting, title, financing, and closing.
Sam is a Fellow of the American and Colorado Bar Foundations, past chair of The Colorado Lawyer board of editors, and past president of the Mesa County Bar Association and has served on the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) Board of Governors, as CBA executive vice president, and chair of the CBA and DBA Joint Management Committee. Sam was appointed by Gov. Hickenlooper to the Electronic Recording Technology Board, by the Colorado Supreme Court to the Continuing Legal and Judicial Education Committee, and has served on the CBA Real Estate Section Council and the Litigation Section Council.
Sam served on the Colorado LGBT Bar Judicial Endorsement Committee, conducting interviews and recommendations for multiple District Court judges, two Court of Appeals judges, and two Supreme Court justices. He is a 2015 graduate of the CBA Leadership Training Program (COBALT).
Sam has completed several 1/3, half and full marathons, including the Marine Corp Marathon. He is also a certified 200 hour yoga Instruction. Sam enjoys skiing, fly fishing, hiking, and exploring the Colorado backcountry. He is a third-generation Colorado native. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and playing the piano
